Basics of Microscopy - First Steps in Neuroscience

3 and 5 February 2026, 2 x half day online, 14.00 – 17.00

Modern neuroscience increasingly relies on both basic and advanced microscopy techniques. However, when training is passed informally; from a peer, a supervisor, or someone in the lab; important knowledge is often lost or diluted over time.

This training, led by Dr Adrian Garcia‑Burgos (University of Edinburgh), provides a solid foundation in microscopy. As a microscopy application specialist for the IMPACT facility, Adrian has extensive experience training students with no prior knowledge and helping them become confident, advanced users.

This course is designed for anyone who wants more than just “button‑pushing” skills. You will learn the principles behind microscopy, the theory that guides good practice, and the hands‑on understanding needed to make informed decisions in your experiments.
