Mental Health UK PhD Competition

Applications should be made by potential supervisors. Four scholarships available are available as part of this year's Mental Health Research UK (incorporating the Schizophrenia Research Fund) competition. This round will lead to PhD students being appointed to take up a place in the 2027/2028 academic year.

Applications must come from prospective supervisors and not directly from students. The funder will accept at most one application per university per scholarship (though a university may apply for more than one scholarship if they wish). It would therefore be worthwhile to reach out to colleagues to collaborate on an application rather than competing with each other.

Scholarships will be funded in the following topics:

  • Developing and validating novel biomarkers for schizophrenia and related psychotic conditions
  • Childhood neuro-developmental antecedents for schizophrenia and related psychotic conditions
  • Antecedents, causal factors, clinical characteristics, treatments and outcomes of peri-menopausal first-onset psychosis and related psychotic conditions
  • Risks, benefits and opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in mental health care
