Parkinson’s UK senior research fellowship round 2026

Senior research fellowships are for people who want to specialise in Parkinson's research by establishing their own independent research group. Applicants should have a strong track record of original and productive research in their area, and be able to demonstrate the progress they've made in moving towards independence.

Parkinson's is on the rise. In the UK today, someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million.

Parkinson’s UK is the leading European charitable funder of Parkinson’s research, searching for the cause, a cure and better treatments right now. We unite people with Parkinson’s with scientists to shape, steer and take part in research. So every breakthrough makes the biggest possible difference to their lives.

Fellowships are initially for three years and for up to £300,000.

Our senior research fellowships are for people who want to specialise in Parkinson's research by establishing their own independent research group. Applicants should have a strong track record of original and productive research in their area, and be able to demonstrate the progress they've made in moving towards independence. Grants are tenable only at a UK university, NHS Trust, statutory social care organisation or other UK research institution.

Sign up to the virtual workshop on Thursday 19 March 2026 at 10.00am-11.30am to hear more about how to apply for a senior research fellowship, and also find out about the Research Involvement Award support grants for developing research project ideas with people who have lived experience of Parkinson's. This workshop will cover: top tips from a recent successful applicant, as well as from a scientific reviewer and a lay reviewer with lived experience of Parkinson’s; meaningful patient and public involvement (PPI); and the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
