Research in a nutshell

I am the Scientific Coordinator for Edinburgh Neuroscience. This is a university-wide interdisciplinary organisation that brings together over 500 fundamental and clinical researchers, based in over 180 laboratories, in a strongly collaborative and exciting community.

For 19 years I was a fundamental neuroscience researcher and have 24 research publications. In 2006 I shifted emphasis to help establish Edinburgh Neuroscience. I continue to be part of the research community in Edinburgh, supporting them through a variety of administrative roles, including:

  • Supporting the research community with a central neuroscience communication hub
  • Organising regular events to enable effective networking (including the annual Neuroscience Day meeting and Autumn School for PhD Students)
  • Coordinating the Wellcome Trust 4 year PhD programme in Translational Neuroscience
  • Administering three funding award schemes that support our community
  • Organising the Edinburgh Neuroscience outreach programme, including schools workshop programme (getBRAINY), festival contributions, films screenings, public lectures etc.
  • Assisting with the development and writing of stategic grants
