Prof. Giles Hardingham City of Edinburgh Chair of Pharmacology Organisation Associations School of Neurological and Cardiovascular Sciences Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research Edinburgh Neuroscience Edinburgh Imaging Research in a nutshell The brain has an amazing ability to sustain itself. While neurons in the brain cannot regenerate, they nevertheless can survive and function for many decades. We work on understanding how neurons and surrounding cells in the brain work together to adapt to changing needs, to ensure that they remain in good health. We also investigate mechanisms that can lead to these processes malfunctioning in acute and chronic disorders of the brain.
